With everything going on in the world right now, it is more important than ever for Veterans to unite and step up to the plate. There is much work to be done home and abroad. What I appreciate most about the United States is that it is a country that has shown it has the ability to unite. At times our society tries to divide us by race or religion. With Veterans, there are no “isms” and such things like skin color and religion don’t matter. As Veterans we are just that, Veterans.
From firsthand experience I will be honest and say being an American abroad is difficult right now. Everyone is very opinionated and judgmental about our country. They believe what they see and read from news media and from social media and then form their impression about our country and its citizens. However their opinions can and do change after meeting someone from the United States. More than ever before we need Veterans abroad to truly show what we stand for and to show our selfless service. With just one interaction we can portray the correct impression to foreigners. We can show them that we are charitable and an extremely honorable culture of people. Our experience in the military has shaped us to strive in environments that need order and rebuilding. This is exactly what Expert-Exchange seeks to provide and continue to do for not only Cambodia, but other countries. We have a lot of exciting things lined up for the future and will be expanding to Myanmar to set up an NGO there.
For Veterans feeling lost or lacking a purpose, I encourage you to reach out and become part of something bigger. If you don't desire the adventure of SE Asia, get involved with an organization back home and help your community. Stay connected to fellow Veterans and like-minded people. To change this world for the better and the next generation we need to come together and do some serious work. We have the potential and ability. If you want to join Expert-Exchange in our mission please contact us. We can use help domestically if you cannot travel and we can use motivated individuals to join us abroad. Remember actions speak louder than words.
